DHL, the world's leading Logistics Company, and Blue Dart, South Asia's premier courier, and integrated express package Distribution Company, part of the DHL Group, celebrated Global Volunteer Day on September 16 and 17, 2011. More than 7600 employees across India took part in various activities including blood donation, volunteering in old age/children's/destitute homes, organizing painting competitions for underprivileged children and sponsoring saplings as part of its global drive to give back to local communities and to inculcate a passion for volunteerism among employees.

Christoph Remund, Chief Executive Officer, DHL Global Forwarding, India said "On behalf of the DHL Group in India I am pleased to say that DHL Global Volunteer Day provides employees with a great opportunity to involve themselves with various sustainability initiatives. DHL has always believed in giving back to the local communities through our three corporate responsibility programs, namely, GoTeach, championing education; GoGreen, protecting the environment; and GoHelp, delivering help after natural disasters. This year, we were particularly excited to have over 7600 employees from more than 40 locations participate in various activities in community welfare, environmental protection, blood donation drives and supporting underprivileged children."

Volunteer activities in India covered a wide range of efforts, which included the following:

GoTeach Painting competitions for over 2500 children in Mumbai, Delhi and Pune in association with Teach For India under the initiative titled "Redraw India".

GoHelp Blood Donation Drives in association with THINK Foundation organized in over 40 locations across India with donation from 2000 volunteers. The blood collected will be donated to various medical institutions like the Red Cross Society, blood banks and Government hospitals across India. This drive is also an effort to aid Thalassaemia patients and will help to create awareness amongst volunteers on the importance of regular blood donation. Apart from this employees also volunteered at local Old Age, Children's and Destitute Homes to spread joy and bring smiles to their faces.

GoGreenA campaign titled "Sponsor a tree" launched in association with Grow-Trees.com, official partner of the United Nations Environment Program's Billion Tree Campaign and WWF's Cities for Forests Campaign. About 4514 employees from DHL and Blue Dart donated funds worth Rs. 4.8 lakhs to sponsor over 9600 trees either in their name or to honour their family, friends and colleagues. The sponsored trees will be planted in government and community lands.

Introduced in Asia Pacific in 2008, Volunteer Day has expanded into Americas, the Middle East, Africa and Europe over the years, and continues to build on its success by involving more employees than ever before. This year, Deutsche Post DHL offices around the world are participating in many diverse community projects in support of various local causes. These programs deliver to the company's three Corporate Responsibility programs - GoTeach (championing education), GoGreen (protecting the environment) and GoHelp (delivering help after natural disasters).
